  1. What information can I access using Yell.com mobile maps?

    You can access the same information as on Yell.com, including maps and directions to help you find individual businesses.

  2. How do I get Yell.com mobile maps on my mobile device?

    There are four easy ways to get Yell.com mobile maps:

    Send us your mobile number using the black form near the top, right-hand corner of this page;

    Send a text message—text the word mobile to 80248;

    Visit the URL—just visit mobile.yell.com/uk using your mobile's web browser;

    Ask a friend to send it to you—anyone you know with the service can send you a link to install it—just ask them.

    Just follow the instructions and the service will automatically install onto your mobile device.

  3. Yell.com mobile maps is running slow on my mobile device. Why?

    There are several things that can affect how fast Yell.com mobile maps works on your mobile device, including: how powerful the device is, whether it's on a 3G or a GPRS network, and what type of memory you have saved Yell.com mobile to.

    Yell.com mobile maps will work faster on 3G networks than GPRS networks and the more powerful the device is, the faster it will work—but you can't change either of those without changing your device (or your contract).

    However, some devices give you the choice of installing Yell.com mobile maps to phone memory or mass memory/memory card.

    For best performance, make sure you install Yell.com mobile maps to phone memory.

    (If you have already installed Yell.com mobile maps to your device, you may have to re-install it to find out which type of memory it is in.)

  4. Which mobile devices does Yell.com mobile maps work on?

    A large number of devices are known to support Yell.com mobile maps. The primary requirement is that the device supports Java and has data or mobile internet enabled. See the full list of compatible devices.

    Alternatively, if your mobile device does not support the full version of Yell.com mobile maps, you can use the browsable version, which can be accessed using your mobile's browser at the address mobile.yell.com. This service operates on all internet-enabled mobile devices.

  5. Do I have to be on any specific mobile network to use Yell.com mobile maps?

    No, it will operate on all the major UK mobile networks. If you do experience any problems, you should contact your mobile service provider.

  6. Do I need a special mobile subscription to use Yell.com mobile maps?

    No, you can use Yell.com mobile maps on your device with any data subscription or mobile internet enabled. It will operate better if you have a GPRS or 3G connection.

  7. What happens if my device is not in the compatible phones list?

    If yours isn't one of those listed, it's still possible that Yell.com mobile maps will work on your device. We are continually adding more devices to the list of those that support the service so please check the list of supported devices from time to time to see if yours has been added to it.

    We also operate a browsable version of Yell.com mobile maps. To use this, visit mobile.yell.com using your phone's browser. This service operates on all internet-enabled mobile devices.

  8. What is the difference between the full and browsable versions?

    Both services provide access to all the Yell.com listings information.

    The main difference is that the full version offers many more features than the browsable one, including elements like "Auto-suggest", "Save result to contacts" and "Send details to friend". We recommend that if your mobile supports the full version then you use it.

  9. Will you be closing your other mobile services?

    There is no intention to close the other mobile services that we provide. Yell.com mobile maps has been developed to offer an improved experience to mobile internet users, but since not all users have mobile devices that work with the new service, we will continue to offer the other ones as well.

  10. I have sent a text message to Yell. Why has nothing come back?

    We respond to all requests by return. However, sometimes the returning message carrying the link to install the service can be delayed across the mobile network.

    If you do not receive the return message, send a further text containing the word mobile to 80248.

    Please note: operator rates apply to sent messages. You will not be charged for the returned message.

  11. Why won't Yell.com mobile maps install on my device?

    If your device does not support Yell.com mobile maps, a message will appear telling you so when you try to install it.

    If your device supports Yell.com mobile maps but it will still not install, you'll need to check your mobile device's internet settings. The settings information can usually be obtained directly from your mobile service provider's website or by contacting their customer services team.

  12. Why do I keep getting error messages when using Yell.com mobile maps?

    All error messages will contain details about the error. It's most likely that errors are caused by poor network reception, so it's always worth trying to use the service again at a later point.

    If a message continues to appear, then we recommend that you request a new copy of Yell.com mobile maps to replace the original. See "How do I get Yell.com mobile maps on my mobile?" above for details.

  13. How much does Yell.com mobile maps cost to use?

    Nothing. Yell.com mobile maps is available free of charge subject to any network provider charges that you may incur. If Yell subsequently decides to charge for its use, a schedule will appear on this website or in the "Service information" area of Yell.com mobile itself.

  14. How would I know if charges were to change?

    If any prices change, you will be automatically informed when you next use Yell.com mobile maps.

  15. What happens if I buy a new mobile device?

    You can still use Yell.com mobile maps as long as your new device supports it. See the list of compatible mobile devices. You will need to install the full version again.

  16. Can Yell.com mobile maps be used if my device is stolen?

    The service on your device will be active as long as the device can make calls. Once you have cancelled the device, the service will not operate.

  17. I have a device in the list. Why won't Yell.com mobile maps work?

    Yell.com mobile maps has been developed to operate on the most stable (or latest) versions of the mobile devices in the list. Occasionally problems are experienced with the early releases of some mobile devices. To overcome these problems manufacturers often upgrade the "firmware" on the mobile device. If the problem persists, we recommend you contact your mobile device dealer and ask them to check that you have the latest version of the firmware on your mobile device.

  18. Will Yell.com mobile maps work when I am abroad?

    Yes, you can still access the service. Remember that you will be using international roaming. There can be specific local problems that are outside of our control. You can't search for international numbers using Yell.com mobile maps.

  19. How do I remove Yell.com mobile maps from my device?

    Yell.com mobile maps can easily be removed by simply deleting it from the "Applications" area on your device. Details of how to do this should be in your mobile device's manual.

  20. I have an international mobile device. Can I use Yell.com mobile maps?

    Possibly. Yell.com mobile maps has been developed to operate on any mobile device, irrespective of the mobile service provider. However, we cannot guarantee that it will operate on an international mobile device. You will, however, not be able to register with Yell.

    If you do experience issues, you will be able to use the browsable version (URL: mobile.yell.com).

  21. I have a Sony Ericsson device. Why am I having trouble using Yell.com mobile maps?

    When requesting Yell.com mobile maps on a P series device, the full version is delivered to the web browser area of the device and not the message area. Once you have requested it, go to the web browser option where you will find the returned link to install the service.

  22. After installing and starting Yell.com mobile maps, and "accepting" when prompted, I get a "Connection failed" error message. Why?

    On the Nokia 6500 Classic, your access point is not configured to allow network access to the application.

    Try the following: 1) Exit the application; 2) Go to "Menu"; 3) Select "Settings" then "Configuration" and change the "Preferred access pt." to the web access point provided by your network operator. (For O2, for example, select "O2 MobileWeb" from the list of available access points.)

  23. I cannot find the application I just downloaded and installed. Why?

    On the Nokia 6500 Classic, downloaded applications are automatically installed under "Menu" then "Apps." then "Games".

  24. Why do I keep being prompted to "Allow network access"?

    The default configuration of the Nokia 6500 Classic is to prompt users each time an application attempts to connect to the network.

    Try the following: 1) Exit Yell.com mobile; 2) Go to the phone menu; 3) Select "Apps." then "Games" and highlight the application icon, but do not start it; 4) Select "Options" then "Application access" then "Communication" then "Network access" then "Ask first time only".

  25. I've entered my phone number in the black box on this website, but haven't got anything back. Why?

    It may be because you are on the "3" network. Users of the "3" network should go to http://mobile.yell.com/uk on their mobiles to get the Yell.com mobile applications.
